Check out all the content on the Coalition’s website – Go to the blue banner at the top and hit the drop down menus.YOU WILL MAKE A COUNTY-WIDE DIFFERENCE IF YOU ENGAGE WITH YOUR COMMUNITY Citizens county wide are feeling ignored by their elected leaders.Data center proliferation everywhere, high density residential sprawl, and road widenings in rural areas will mean we will not meet our carbon reduction goals.Fairfax County Water Authority is warning PWC leaders that if this comprehensive plan is adopted, without first understanding the impacts on the reservoir, we will risk impairing this critical drinking water supply.We have the largest footprint of the Occoquan Reservoir Watershed that supplies clean drinking water to 800 thousand people in the region.PWC is unique in the region with much of its cultural and natural resources still intact.National Parks in the East and West of PW County are threatened by data center development, risking the integrity of the parks and surrounding hallowed grounds, and threatening tourism dollars which benefit all County residents and surrounding jurisdictions.Industrial data center development is taking the place of good mixed use development in areas closer to employment, and taking away realistic and economically walkable living opportunities.Multiple road widenings are being added with each new mobility “draft” map.The urbanization of the entire county is not only creating dreadful choices – it is removing the predictability of why people chose to move to Prince William County.“Activity Centers,” “Villages,” “Hamlets” and “Residential Clusters” – creative names – are being used to masque the introduction of dense commercial and housing sprawl throughout rural areas. Citizens are asked to show up to listening sessions with few, if any, substantive presentations to help educate them on significant proposals that will completely change the quality of life for thousands of residents county-wide. The process during this county’s comprehensive plan update is chaotic with little transparency.In the 2021 county-wide survey administered by the PWC Planning Office, 71% of citizens who participated chose as their highest priority protecting the natural resources in the county.According to the EPA, this is what smart growth is and should be: Determine which areas are both well-connected to existing development and less vulnerable to current and projected climate change impacts … and encourage growth in these areas. There is no expiration date on any land use designation in the comprehensive plan.A1 zoning is a long range land use tool to control the taxpayer burden of suburban sprawl, promote agriculture, and protect clean water.The Rural Crescent was adopted in 1998 by the majority of Supervisors in the East in a bipartisan vote.You have to be the change you want to see, and this quote does that by not being very pretentious. If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10. Or when you daydream about going back to preschool…the simpler days. You've heard this at a rally for the environment. An industrialist who regrets his actions and actually thinks about correcting the damage he's done? Yep, this is fiction. Well, at the end of the book, The Once-ler gives us his interpretation: "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. An industrialist called the Once-ler has basically destroyed the environment and run off a rare creature, the Lorax, who left behind only a stone that says "UNLESS" on it in really big letters. The Lorax is the book that anti-environmentalists don't want you to know about.
